Waste Water

The primary source of sewerage treatment service in Northern Kentucky is the Sanitation District No. 1 (SD1), serving municipalities and unincorporated areas in Boone, Campbell, and Kenton counties.

Sanitation District No. 1 has been nationally recognized for an outstanding storm water management program by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other groups.

The Eastern Regional Treatment Plant is now online in southern Campbell County, increasing capacity for operations and new development in that part of our region.

SD1 broke ground in June 2009 on the Western Regional Water Reclamation Facility; a new wastewater treatment plant and six-mile underground tunnel. When complete, this project will provide flexibility for future capacity needs in Boone and Kenton Counties and also help SD1 meet regulatory requirements in that part of the region.
