In the spring of 1997, the Kentucky General Assembly mandated the reform of post-secondary education in Kentucky. As a result of this legislation, the Kentucky Tech system became part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).
This initiative also called for the establishment of Gateway Community and Technical College. Gateway combines the talents and resources of the three post-secondary technical schools that have served Northern Kentucky since 1939.
Gateway Community and Technical College offers training in 26 programs with 32 majors (diplomas), 62 minors (certificates), and associate degree programs. Gateway will be launching a program to train manufacturing technicians, thanks to a grant from the National Science Foundation. The training, available in the fall 2008, will include courses from six manufacturing programs:
- Computer-assisted drafting
- Electricity
- Industrial maintenance
- Machine tool
- Welding
- Manufacturing engineering technology
In addition to traditional offerings the college partners with Northern Kentucky University, Thomas More College, Dayton, Covington and Newport Independent School Districts, the Covington Community Center and Forward Quest to deliver education to the citizens in the urban center of the region through the Urban Learning Center.
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
Cincinnati State, with an enrollment of 8,421 students, offers a student-friendly environment with a faculty dedicated to meeting the needs of business and industry. Program advisors keep the courses relevant to career and employment trends.

Metropolitan Education and Training Services
In 1999, METS was created to effectively reduce the gaps between performance expectations and worker capabilities.
Through the leadership of educators, community and business leaders, including many economic development experts and many managers who are responsible for employee training and development in their respective fields, METS was created as a regional advocate for employers to help them meet their present and future workforce needs by providing state-of-the-art, objective performance and needs assessments.
Education, Training and Development include:
- Essentials of Supervision Programs - designed to enhance the skills necessary for a successful transition of managers and supervisors to performance coaches, facilitators and team leaders.
- Increasing Personal and Organizational Resiliency - acquiring the resiliency skills that help us stay productive in even the most challenging times.
- Managing and Mediating Conflict - based on Mediation Works, this one day workshop will prepare you to resolve workplace conflicts even in situations that have previously defied resolution.
- MBA Essentials - a focused overview of the topics most commonly covered in the MBA programs.
- Tier 1 Performance - lean accounting, replacing standard financial and cost accounting with a system that supports lean practices.

 Northern Kentucky University
Northern Kentucky University has teamed with strategic partners with nationally-respected subject expertise to develop the NKU Advanced Learning and Training Center. The NKU ALT Center creates a world-class experiential learning, training, observation and research environment utilizing proprietary technology heretofore available only to select organizations. The NKU ALT Center can also provide course content creation and program facilitation expertise which is available to NKU classes, corporate clients, private organizations, and academic colleagues and programs.
The amenities offered include:
- State-of-the-art classroom
- Ceiling projectors
- Wall-length, projectible white-board
- An infra-red-based classroom voting system
- Break-out / team-rooms
- Customized hardware and software for audio, video and data recording and playback
The capabilities provided by the Center serve to dramatically improve the effectiveness of the learning experience by providing skill-building and decision-making improvement to attain the stature and provide the breadth and depth of quality instructional processes and learning outcomes that are mandated in the NKU mission.
